What is it?

It might sound counterproductive, but making it easy for buyers to cancel with you is great for your business.

Why does it work?

When people don’t feel trapped by contracts and offers, or that they have to argue and make lengthy calls to cancel a service, it creates unnecessary issues and negativity. The fact is, if someone wants to cancel, then you should allow them to do so as easily as possible as a form of damage limitation.

How can you use it?

A bit like having an “unsubscribe” button on emails, think about how you can have a link, email address or even a hotline to allow buyers to cancel their agreement with you as quickly and swiftly as possible.

Example

A real-world one-click cancel example is Netflix.

When you go to your account settings on Netflix, there’s a big “Cancel Membership” button. Clicking it once immediately stops the subscription, with no extra steps, retention calls, or hidden menus. Netflix even confirms the cancellation right away and tells you how long you can still watch until your billing period ends.

This effortless, one-click cancel process is part of why Netflix maintains such high trust with customers – people know they can leave at any time without hassle.
