Understand Your Buyer > How to connect with your buyer > Special Effects
What is it?
Using imagery to communicate is a powerful tool, but it can be even more effective by adding some visual effects to the imagery.
Why does it work?
It works because it’s making you feel a certain way or drawing attention to something – but without you consciously realising it. The sparkles in the image here probably wouldn’t even be noticed at first, but their presence makes you feel a certain way.
How can you use it?
There are a number of ways to add special effects to imagery (and videos):
- Black and White. highlighting the “good” and the “bad” by using colour.
- Adding sparkles as we are talking about here.
- A subtle glow around text or a product can give a feeling of warmth / luxury.
- Selective focus where only a part of the image is in focus and the rest is a blur.
- Freeze frame (for videos) where something is frozen in time to add emphasis.
- Timelapse (for videos) where a lot of activity / progress can be conveyed in a short space of time.
Example
In this image, they have used sparkles to enhance the before and after to make it feel even more clean and special. Notice how the sparkles start at the centre line (where the Dylon is used one presumes) and then only appear in the “after” image.
