Episode 1065: Why Bundling Could Be Costing You Sales

Episode 1065: Why Bundling Could Be Costing You Sales

TLDR: Stop selling the whole toolbox when your buyer only needs the hammer.

Bundling feels like the right thing to do. You give buyers more, you charge a fair price, everyone wins.

That’s the theory anyway…

The Problem With Bundling

When you bundle things together, you’re not just adding value. You’re often adding confusion.

Buyers get unsure what they’re actually paying for. They end up with things they don’t need, mixed in with the one thing they came for. And when people are unsure, they hesitate. Hesitation kills sales.

There’s also a hidden cost. Every extra thing you bundle in means more explaining. More “well it does this, but also that” conversations. The more you explain, the more chances you give a buyer to lose interest or get lost.

The Parts Effect

Instead of bundling, try the opposite. Sell things in parts.

Let buyers buy just the piece they need. Force someone into a bigger package when they only wanted one part, and you risk losing them completely. Give them the option to buy exactly what solves their problem, and you keep the door open.

This doesn’t mean bundling never works. There are times and places for it. But it should be a choice, not something buyers get forced into without thinking it through.

What This Means For Your Offer

Look at how you currently package what you sell. Are you bundling because it genuinely helps your buyer, or because it’s easier for you to sell one big package instead of managing several smaller ones?

If it’s the second one, you might be turning away buyers who only wanted a small, cheaper slice of what you do.

Simplicity sells. Give people the option to buy less, and more of them will buy from you.

Have you ever offered a customer more than they asked for, and watched them hesitate instead of buy?

Take Action

Look at one thing you currently sell as a bundle. Ask yourself if every buyer actually wants all of it, or if you’re just making the sale easier for you.

Try offering it in parts on your next enquiry and see what happens.
