Practical Sales Training™ > How To Convert > Reorder Discount
What is it?
If you want people to buy from you again (to reorder) , incentivising them to do so with a discount is an effective strategy.
Why does it work?
It works because its easier to sell to those who have already bought from you. If you’ve bought something and are then surprised with an incentive to reorder it when you need it, you are unlikely to NOT take advantage of the offer.
How can you use it?
Depending on your offering (and this works for products more than services), consider either emailing your buyer, or advertising to them with their purchase as in the example below. This tends to be more effective when the discount/incentive is unexpected as it becomes more of a lagniappe.
Hypothetical Example:
A coffee subscription company emails customers 2 weeks before their usual supply runs out with the subject line:
“Top up now and save 20% – just for you.”
The customer, who’s already happy with the coffee, gets a personalised link to reorder with the discount automatically applied. Because they were already going to buy again, the unexpected 20% saving feels like a bonus, prompting faster and more frequent reorders.
