The No Follow Up Close
Chasing a buyer rarely works. So try the opposite instead.
Tell them you won’t follow up at all. Then watch what that silence actually does.
What Is It
The no follow up close means telling a buyer you won’t chase them again. So instead of endless check-ins, you hand the decision fully back to them.
It removes the awkward touch base emails. Since there’s nothing left to chase, there’s nothing left to dread either.
Why Does It Work
It works because it puts the buyer in control. So there’s no pressure, and no reason to avoid your calls.
It also works because they now have to speak up. Since you won’t be checking in, any interest has to come from them.
Finally, it’s a bold move. Since most sellers chase endlessly, doing the opposite stands out immediately.
How Can You Use It
To use this, follow a simple script. So confirm the decision sits with them, and that you genuinely won’t chase.
Deliver it warmly, not as a threat. Since the words only work if the buyer believes you mean them.
Be ready to actually follow through too. So if you say you won’t chase, don’t chase.
When It Works Best
This works best with buyers who are genuinely interested but stuck deciding. So removing pressure gives them space to actually choose.
It also suits situations where you have other opportunities in your pipeline. Since desperation undermines the whole approach instantly.
When It Becomes Dangerous
It becomes dangerous if it sounds even slightly manipulative. So a buyer who senses a tactic will trust you less, not more.
It also fails if you can’t truly let the deal go. Since buyers pick up on a bluff faster than you’d expect.
Common Mistakes
Saying The Words Without Meaning Them
Some sellers say the words without meaning them. So they follow up anyway, and the whole approach collapses instantly.
Using It As A Guilt Trip
Some use it as a guilt trip instead of genuine respect. So it reads as manipulation rather than confidence.
Applying It To Every Buyer
Some apply it to every buyer regardless of situation. So people who genuinely needed a gentle reminder get silence instead.
The No Follow Up Close – An Example
The Script I Actually Use
When speaking with a potential Clear Sales Message™ client, I often end the call with something like this.
“I would love to work with you, but it is, of course, your decision. You have to make the best decision for yourself. In terms of next steps, if you have questions you know where I am and if you want to go ahead you know where I am. Otherwise that’s it for now, you don’t want to be followed up or chased and I don’t want to have to chase you so I won’t be in touch from here and the ball is in your court.”
I genuinely mean every word of that. It makes a profound difference to the buyer feeling, and being, in control.
