The Like & Share Effect

Practical Sales Training™  > How To Get Attention > The Like and Share Effect

What is it?

Incentivising your followers to like and share your posts on Facebook can dramatically increase your reach.

Why does it work?

It works because liking and sharing a post is a very very simple thing to do, so with the incentive of a prize or discount it becomes a no-brainer activity. Once liked and shared the post is visible to more people and some of those people may in turn also like and share which increases reach exponentially.

How can you use it?

This works best on Facebook, so create a Facebook post, decide on an appropriate prize and timescale and post it encouraging your followers to like and share. This activity can be used both as a brand awareness building exercise or to promote a specific product or deal.

Example:

A local bakery posts the following on Facebook:

“Win a box of our best-selling brownies! – Like this post and share it to your timeline by Friday at 5pm for your chance to win. One lucky winner will be announced Saturday morning!”

Why it works:

  • Liking and sharing takes seconds

  • The prize is relevant and desirable

  • The deadline adds urgency

  • Each share introduces the bakery to new local audiences who may never have heard of it before

Even if people don’t win, many now know about the brand and may follow or visit.
