What is it?

The Pronunciation Effect is when a brand goes out of its way to show people how to say its name properly. You’ll often see this with tricky brand names that are foreign, made-up, or just easy to get wrong. It might be in an ad, on the website, or even in a social post — but the goal is simple: make sure people say it right.

Why does it work?

It works because nobody likes saying a name wrong. If a brand helps you get it right, you feel more confident talking about it — and more connected to it. Plus, when everyone says it the same way, it sounds more consistent and professional. A name that’s easy to say is easier to remember, and more likely to be shared.

How can you use it?

If your brand name gets mispronounced a lot, lean into it. Add a quick “rhymes with…” line in your bio, use a phonetic spelling, or make a short video showing how to say it. You can even have fun with the wrong versions people say — just like how IKEA and Nike have done in the past. It’s a simple way to build clarity, confidence, and a bit of personality too.
