The New Effect

Understand Your Buyer > How To Get Attention > The New Effect

What is it?

The New Effect is about seizing attention for new products and services by focussing on the fact that they are new.

Why does it work?

When something is NEW. It’s more attractive. It’s really that simple.

How can you use it?

When you launch a new product or service be sure to include the word “NEW” everywhere possible to ensure your potential clients understand that this is the first time it has been offered for sale.

Example:

A skincare brand launches a moisturiser and updates their homepage banner to say:

“NEW: Hydrate+ Daily Cream – Just Launched”
“First 500 orders get a free mini cleanser”

They also tag emails and social media posts with:

#NewRelease #JustLaunched #NewFromHydratePlus

Why it works:
The word “new” triggers curiosity and immediacy. It suggests freshness, innovation, and limited access. People want to be the first to try something – especially if it’s from a brand they already know.

Even if the change is small (new scent, new packaging, new feature), calling attention to it as “NEW” increases perceived value and urgency.
