Opening Hours

Understand Your Buyer > How To Convert > Opening Hours

What is it?

Having appropriate opening hours for your buyer and being clear about when you do operate can be the difference between someone buying or not.

Why does it work?

It works because it’s a potential physical barrier to doing business. If I need you and you aren’t open, I am naturally drawn to your competition who is open and ready for business.

Similarly – if I don’t think you are open as it’s hard to check, I might just go to a competitor who have made it obvious that they are open and ready for business.

So many businesses have slightly inappropriate opening hours for their customers, of fail to communicate them effectively.  It seems minor, but it can make all the difference.

How can you use it?

There are 3 simple things you need to do to be sure that your opening hours help your efforts – rather than hinder them.

1 – Make them RELEVANT to your buyer. Do you need to be open early or late or 24hrs or both? weekends? holidays? Being there when your specific buyer needs you is the first thing you MUST get right.

2 – Publish your opening hours CLEARLY. In email signatures, on signage and via emails for holidays etc -be explicit about when you are available. You really can’t over-communicate this stuff.

3 – Keep them UP TO DATE. Things change, so make sure you reflect this everywhere you can so they aren’t outdated

Example

The shop 7-11 is actually named after their opening hours – 7am to 11pm 7 days a week. This is similar to naming your product/service based on its price.
