The Ready To Use Effect
What Is It
The Ready To Use Effect is about ensuring you give your client everything they need, all inside your offering. So it’s washed and ready to eat salad. It’s also premixed screenwash for your car.
The idea is simple. Remove the assembly, and you remove the friction between paying and using.
Most businesses sell the ingredients. But this effect sells the finished dish instead.
Why Does It Work
It works because, as humans, we gravitate toward the path of least resistance. So by providing everything a client would need in your offering, you stand out against the competition. As a result, you can also make bolder claims about your results and deliverables.
Your clients aren’t necessarily looking for the cheapest option. Instead, they’re looking for the easiest and most comprehensive one. So by offering everything your client needs, and focusing on convenience and directness of results, you can sell a more expensive option to a client.
This is because the comparison shifts entirely. A buyer isn’t weighing your price against a rival’s price anymore. Instead, they’re weighing your finished result against their own hassle of piecing it together themselves.
How Can You Use It
Map every gap a client would otherwise have to fill
Depending on your offering, identify everything your client will need to meet their needs, then combine it into your offering. This might mean a partnership, or a larger, more expensive version of what you already do. That’s fine.
Sell value instead of price
For this model, you’re moving away from price and looking at value instead. So if you can confidently tell a potential client you have everything they need, and have done the legwork for them, suddenly price becomes less of an issue.
Name what you’ve removed, not just what you’ve added
Don’t just list features. Instead, spell out the hassle you’ve taken off their plate, the suppliers they don’t need to find, the decisions they don’t need to make. That’s what actually justifies the higher price.
When It Works Best
This works best where a “finished” version genuinely takes real effort to assemble yourself, multiple suppliers, technical steps, or decisions most buyers aren’t equipped to make.
It also works best when your buyer values their own time highly. So the more valuable their time, the more they’ll pay to avoid spending it on assembly.
When It Becomes Dangerous
It backfires if the bundle includes things the buyer didn’t actually want or need. So padding a package just to justify a higher price feels like the opposite of convenience.
It also becomes risky if you promise “everything,” then quietly leave a gap. As a result, one missing piece the buyer has to source themselves undoes the entire pitch, since the whole appeal was never having to do that.
Pricing too high against the perceived effort saved is a real risk too. So the premium has to feel proportionate to the hassle you’ve genuinely removed.
Common Mistakes
Bundling for margin instead of convenience
Adding extras purely to raise the price, rather than to genuinely remove effort, is easy for buyers to spot. Instead, the bundle has to solve a real problem, not just look bigger.
Talking about features instead of the effort saved
Listing everything included isn’t the same as explaining what the buyer no longer has to do. So lead with the hassle removed, then let the feature list back it up.
Leaving one thing out and hoping nobody notices
If “ready to use” turns out to need one more step, the whole promise collapses. As a result, buyers remember the gap far more than everything else you got right.
The Ready To Use Effect – An Example
A Ready To Use Website Package
As a website builder, instead of just designing and handing over a website, you offer a Ready To Use Website Package that includes:
- Full website design
- Hosting and domain setup
- Mobile optimisation
- Basic SEO setup
- GDPR cookie consent tools
- A tutorial video showing them how to make edits
- Ongoing support for 30 days
Why it works: Most clients don’t want “just a website.” Instead, they want a site that’s live, working, legal, and easy to update, without having to find and coordinate multiple suppliers or figure it out on their own.
You’re removing all the hidden effort they didn’t know they’d need to invest. So you become the easy choice, not the cheapest, but the most complete.
Your sales message becomes:
“We don’t just build websites – we hand over a ready-to-use online presence. Everything you need to go live with confidence from day one.”
