What is it?

Incentivising people to do the right thing from an environmental point of view in the form of a discount.

Why does it work?

It works because saving money is always a great motivator and when you couple it with actually doing something good and green.

How can you use it?

You need to ask yourself what “green” actions your buyer could take that you could incentivise. It could be things like:

  • Something reusable (like a cup)
  • Repairing instead of replacing (making the repair vastly cheaper than the replacement)
  • Incentivising the return of something (Pfand System)

Example

On a recent British Airways flight, this advert caught my eye in their magazine – offering a 50p discount for using your own cup when buying a tea or coffee rather than a reusable one.
